Seniors Ministry
"And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:6)
The Bible has a lot to say about seniors. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob walked with God in their old age, and the Lord had special purposes for them in the later seasons of their lives (Gen. 21:2, 37:3). The Lord chose to wait until Moses had reached old age before using him to deliver Israel out of Egypt, so that Moses’s pride would be laid low and God would receive the glory. Zechariah, Elizabeth, Simeon, and Anna, four aged saints, were among the very first people who learned about Christ’s arrival (Luke 1:5-80; 2:22-38). God’s law requires that seniors be treated with special honor (Leviticus 19:32), and in the New Testament the apostles instruct that seniors should be given special respect (1 Timothy 5:1-2). At the same time, God continues to call seniors to faithful discipleship (Titus 2:2-3), and being elderly does not excuse sin (Jeremiah 6:11; Ezekiel 9:6). The Lord’s redemptive purposes specifically involve seniors (Deuteronomy 32:7; Psalm 92:12-14, 148:12-13; Joel 2:28). He intends for seniors to be repositories of wisdom, dignity, and knowledge (Job 12:12; Proverbs 16:31, 23:22).
The purpose of the Seniors Ministry is to support the overall mission of the church to glorify God and proclaim the gospel by providing thoughtful and purposeful opportunities for discipleship, outreach, peer fellowship, and intergenerational connectivity for the seniors at Cache Valley Bible Fellowship. Through events, activities, and specific discipleship targets, the goal is for the seniors in our church to be strengthened, encouraged, grow, and be equipped for what God is calling them to do.
